Jellyfish Galllery is excited to have a solo show of Beth Goolsby’s new series titled “Immature”. These bright bold and intense works are playful and reminiscent of another time.
“After the earthquake in Japan, my thoughts drifted towards fractured landscapes and the work of Tadanori Yokoo. I started painting. The series transformed and characters started to inhabit the landscapes: owls, totems, fawns, and monsters. These characters came to the fore while revisiting the TV show “Twin Peaks” with its dark and mysterious woods and Pacific Northwest totem imagery. This series of paintings hopes to inspire a playful spirit in the face of adversity. When the adult world stops making sense the best rebellion is immaturity.”
Beth Goolsby is a painter currently living and working in Oakland, California. She was born in Texas in 1975 and moved all around the country until settling in San Francisco 10 years ago. As a kid Beth was exposed to art through her family, her mother is a painter and sculptor and her grandfather was a photographer. Finding inspiration through the art and design of the Bauhaus, mid-century graphic and product design, as well as the pop culture of the US and Japan, she digests these ideas to find her own voice.
