The Jellyfish Gallery is a live/work art space showcasing new and established artists in a wide range of mediums.
We hold openings and viewings by appointment, for solo and group shows in painting, sculpture, mixed-media, performance and photography. Our space is also available for a limited number of private parties and charitable events.
Our Facilities
Our main gallery is 800 sq feet, with 16 foot ceilings, skylights and variable LED lighting. The adjacent 400 sq ft space can be used for additional exhibits or a gathering area. We have ceiling hardware for hanging art, a mezzanine level and roof deck, and many architectural features which lend interest to the surroundings. And, yes, a tank full of jellyfish.
For events we have a sound system, microphones, projector and screen, and a display case facing the street.
Our History
The location has a long and storied history. As Artspace (1986 to 1993), the gallery was a driving force in the local art scene, supporting artists and pushing boundaries with shows by Karen Finley, “Timothy Leary’s FBI file”, and the first-ever indoor Survival Research Labs demonstration (on video here), among others. A book was published about that era.

From director Jon Reiss: “SRL: 10 Years of Robotic Mayhem is a culmination of the work that I did with Survival Research Laboratories in the 1980s. This is robotic performance in the extreme – long before Robot Wars and the like. You can find out more information about them on my website at:

In 2002, a group of young artists began a new chapter, presenting occasional shows as the rougher-edged arspace through 2007.
The current partnership takes the space in a very different direction, with emphasis on events with an edge or intellectual hook, and art that satisfies while challenging the viewer.
